A year, I think—though I have no real way to be sure—that humanity has survived in this broken rhythm. Skirmishes and their resulting deaths are common as breathing, we look for food, and we struggle to survive the violent repercussions of the endless red shocks.
Often it seems I open my eyes and stumble to this window—look out at the broken landscape of traumatic destruction and understand a fundamental truth. If this world was something once, that once is now gone.
